Top 5 Things To Do In Budapest – Travel Tuesday #3

I treated myself and a couple of my girl friends to a trip to Budapest for my birthday a week ago. This was my first winter break as I’m normally always chasing the sun, so I was a little apprehensive. Looking back now, I’m laughing at ever being a skeptic because I loved every minute of it. Here’s my compiled list of top 5 things to do whilst you’re in Budapest, Hungary.

Christmas Markets

Ok, so I know this one is seasonal, but runs fro November until January so you still have time to go and visit. The biggest and best Christmas market in my humble opinion is the one in Vorosmarty Square. You want home made Christmas cookies? They have it. You want fruit and flower infused candles made by someones gran? They have it. You want traditional Hungarian food and mulled wine that will get you lit? They have it. (Take it easy on the mulled wine. A lesson I learnt on my last day). Make sure you wrap up warm and bring a couple thousand with you to make sure you get everything you want.

Morrisons2

If you’re from the Uk, we know Morrisons to be a local supermarket. In Budapest it’s actually a night club consisting of 6 different huge rooms each playing different music. They do everything from house, pop, classics and even a karaoke area, but we mainly stayed in the RnB and Reggaeton rooms. I don’t really know what the night life is like in Budapest, but I wasn’t expecting to find anywhere as good as this. People came out on good vibes and wear whatever they feel comfy dancing in. We went on a Thursday night and got wristbands for unlimited drinks at the equivalent of about ยฃ6.50!!! Bargain if I do say so myself.

Cirkusz

This place is the breakfast/brunch spot if you are in Budapest hands down! I don’t even really know what to say except I was there every chance I could get. Luckily it was located literally across the road from our apartment (which you can book here if you’re interested). The prices are really reasonable, they play great music and the portion sizes will keep you filled for the rest of the day. I would definitely recommend the French toast with fresh fruit. It can get quite busy when it first opens and on weekends, so I would suggest brunch timing rather than breakfast.

Szechenyi Thermal Baths

Szechenyi is known for being one of the biggest spa complex’s in Europe. The heated pools are so lush on a winters night and you can choose to wind down with a sauna or massage afterwards. I wondered how people spent so long there, but once I arrived I was in such heaven, before I knew it, 4 hours had passed. It’s super Instagram worthy (if you’re not shy of people watching you take pics), just try not to drop your phone in the pool. The fun doesn’t stop there… on Saturday nights, the spa turns into one giant rave. Kicking off at 10pm, you get to enjoy music being blasted from speakers and lazer lights galore. Who wouldn’t want to party and get a steam facial at the same time? Defo a must when in Budapest.

St Stephens Basillica

Or as my friend’s weirdly kept calling it, St Peter’s. Where did they even pull Peter from? This is for you guys who would love to do a bit of sight seeing. It’s a beautiful Roman Catholic church in honour of Stephen, the first king of Hungary. We happened to o on a sun day so caught a mass in progress and it was so beautiful and surreal. Candles blowing in the wind, bells ringing and people lifting their voices to the lord. The inside of the building is breathtaking and something you definitely need to see for yourself.
